About Nora

Ever since she can remember, Nora has felt most alive, connected and at peace by playing, dancing and expressing through her body. Born in Dublin, Ireland, Nora moved to the Boston area when she was 5, pinned an athlete, she started choreographing with intensity while at Brookline High School and then continued to study at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, graduating with a degree in Dance and InterArts and Technology. While in Madison, she started her first dance company, Noranewdanceco. in 1999 with scholarship funding and support from the School of Education. During her UW-Madison years she spent several summers as a work/study student at the American Dance Festival and at Bates Dance Festival. In 2001, Nora moved to Brooklyn, NY. For 5 years, In NYC, Nora showed her work around downtown including at MR at Judson Church, Dixon Place, Brooklyn Museum, DanceNoW, AUNTS, among others. She studied with Miguel Gutierrez, John Jasperse and Juliette Mapp and danced for Beth Soll, Rebecca Davis and Mandy Morrison.

Nora took her first Yoga class in college as a dance major and was immediately drawn to a practice that not only helped her transform her body and mind into more connection, flexibility and strength but yoga helped her to love her body for the first time. Living much of her adult life in NYC, Nora completed her first 200-hour teacher training at Atmananda Yoga and started teaching Vinyasa classes in Brooklyn while also performing and studying as a modern dancer and choreographer. She found Hot yoga in 2005 and was won over quickly by the healing properties of the heat. Her continued dance career along with studies of Pilates, Feldenkrais, Developmental Movement and Katonah Yoga have also influenced her teaching and creative practice.

Love and curiosity took her abroad and with the births of her two children while she was living in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, she started her study of Pre-Natal and Post-Natal Yoga. Returning to NYC with a baby and a toddler, she has since focused a lot of her teaching on the ages her children have passed through while continuing her own movement and choreography practice.

While in NYC, Nora received her Prenatal Certificate through OM Yoga, Developmental Movement and Baby Yoga Certification with Ellynne Skove and her Kids Teacher Training through Karma Kids. She taught in public and private schools in NYC, most notably as the Arts and Performance Director of the German School Brooklyn (now Global School Brooklyn) for 7 years.

ABOUT NORA’S TEACHING STYLE

Nora’s classes are uniquely custom for each individual or group in front of her. With her extensive experience teaching through the ages and various populations, Nora draws from Iyengar elements of alignment mixed with a conscious use of Vinyasa flow sequencing and a healthy dose of playfulness and movement to help students find a balance between effort and ease in their movement healing practice. When possible, she infuses her classes with hands on adjustments, core work and a lengthy final relaxation. Her classes are always musical, fun and filled with gratitude!
